What to expect

What you can expect during your block course

Our PGD block courses are designed to build the technical knowledge that complements your on‑the-job learning. During your block course, apprentices can expect to:

1

Hands On Technical Training

You’ll develop practical, job-ready skills by learning and practising the installation, maintenance, and testing of plumbing, gasfitting, and drainlaying systems. Training takes place in workshops, simulated worksites, and purpose-built facilities, allowing you to safely carry out real-world tasks under supervision using industry-standard tools, equipment, pipe installations, and drainage pits.

2

Theory & Compliance Learning

Alongside practical training, you’ll complete structured technical theory aligned with New Zealand Certificate qualifications and PGDB licensing requirements. This ensures you understand and can confidently apply New Zealand health and safety, environmental, and legal standards across all aspects of your work.

3

Assessment & Support

Your progress is supported through clearly structured unit standards and assessments, with guidance from EarnLearn assessors and tutors. Ongoing teaching, feedback, and support help you stay on track, meet assessment requirements, and build competence with confidence.
